I recently incorporated a nonprofit organization entitled ¡HABLA! Harvesting Asian, Black, Latino Artists. The purpose of ¡HABLA! is to provide a platform for the voices of Asian, Black and Latino fine artists in the mainstream art world, where artists of color are grossly underrepresented. ¡HABLA! achieves this goal through its all-inclusive youth mentoring programs and through its providing of scholarships for artists of color to graduate and undergraduate art schools.

In 2001, I founded and chartered the nonprofit, all volunteer-run organization, City of Angels Little League (CALL) which serves youth (ages 4-15) in central Los Angeles.
The diversity of our league reflects the demographics of our multicultural community. To the right, I am pictured with players from our 2007 softball division. Click on the photo for more pics.

I've functioned as a PTO board member at our sons' school in Los Angeles, since the inception of the board. In 2006, I designed and organized our school's First Annual Potluck and our First Annual Career Day (two separate events).
All of the 18 Career Day speakers were either parents or aunts and uncles of students. Here I am on Career Day with my 5th-born and one of the elaborate photo-illustrated Career Day brochures I designed.

In the early 1990's, while enjoying some success as an actress, I ran a youth mentoring program for disadvantaged youth in my neighborhood of Harlem, NY. Weekly, I brought guest-speakers into Harlem's St. Aloysius School, to help motivate the children towards success in life. Guest speakers included celebrities, filmmakers, lawyers, doctors, and graduate students.
To the right, I am pictured with guest speakers (child actors) Deon Richmond and Merlin Santana ("Bud" and "Stanley") of "The Cosby Show" and some 8th graders. Click on photo for more pics. |

In 1993, Trenton State College, in New Jersey, invited me to be the Key Note Speaker at their Minority Awards Graduation Dinner. My talk was entitled "The Values of Mentoring." I also spoke at my alma mater high school in Princeton, Jct., NJ.

As a young adult and teenager, I coached gymnastics, taught English, and served as a camp counselor to youth in both Japan and the US. For eight years, I also served as a Little League "Team Mom," in Inglewood, CA, before founding and chartering the City of Angels Little League in Los Angeles, CA.
